It’s that time of the year where Bosch eBikes reveals new products and the company’s direction over the next few years.

Via a live stream Claus Fleischer, Bosch eBike systems CEO, mapped out the new developments for 2022 and beyond.

So let’s take a deep dive into what we can look forward to!!

A NEW SMART SYSTEM

New-Bosch-eBike-2022-Smart-System

An all-new next generation Bosch electric bike system, fully loaded with tech. The Smart System combines proven high-performance technology such as the Performace-CX drive unit with a bigger battery, new displays and a new remote control unit. The new hardware comes with new software, a lot of connectivity with cloud services and apps. In addition, Bosch will provide regular software updates over the air, with even more features added over the coming months. As a result, the Smart System will always be up to date and fully connected.

The Flow App

The Flow app is an integral part of the new Bosch Smart System connecting to your smartphone via Bluetooth. In essence, the eBike Flow app is the key connection to the eBike and the “Bosch connected biking experience”. Using the Flow app, riders can download new features and updates for components such as the motor and battery and connect via Bluetooth to the eBike. The app also integrates with other fitness apps such as Apple Health; you can fully customise riding modes, automatically record activities, it’s easy to use and won’t distract from the fun of riding.

2022 Bosch PowerTube 750Wh

A 750Wh battery pack for long rides and high climbs, with a 20% greater range than the PowerTube 625, the new Powerpack is ideal for extended and challenging rides. Bosch promises a range of up to 140 kilometres depending on your riding mode and a charging time of 6 hours zero to full or 2.5 hours for a 50% charge.

CX-Performance Motor

Bosch’s flagship award-winning CX-Performance Motor with 85Nm torque has largely remained unchanged; however, this year, Bosch will introduce a software update and a new “mode”…Tour Plus. The new Tour Plus mode will optimise the rider input and the motor output ratio, especially at a lower cadence, whilst also providing a natural feeling of support at higher rider input. It’s perfect for extended tours and is especially suited to diverse terrain on long trails. For more info, please get in touch with US.

Bosch Neon Update

The second-generation Neon and accompanying app were released in 2021, with route navigation and activity tracking. This year Bosch bring a software update, which will give riders an up to date weather forecast. The feature is available on the portal, in the app and on the Neon display. It shows you the current weather and temperature. It can tell you the probability of rain and provides a rolling forecast for the next five hours. The software update is available over the Cloud. So if you use your smartphone app or your Neon is connected to Wi-Fi, you can download this update yourself.

The Future

IoT (internet of things)

Combining artificial intelligence and the IoT, eBikes are going digital, and becoming IoT devices in their own right being connected to the internet. Riders will be able to get live traffic updates and warnings, book a service directly with the dealer and have the ability to communicate with other riders. eBike riders will also be able to benefit from further developments in the area of theft protection and recovery. This means, for example, that the eBike would trigger a loud acoustic alarm to deter thieves and, in the event of your bike been stolen, be tracked in the eBike Flow app, which the Police can use to track criminals and recover your bike. Bosch powered electric bikes that are ConnectModule ready can be retrofitted with the ConnectModule later on, with additional functions to come later. For the first time, Bosch has unlocked their software so 3rd party developers can create apps which you will be able to install. So watch this space… we’ll keep you updated with all developments as we have them.
