Full-Suspension Haibike in Black

We all know Electric mountain bikes are perfectly at home off the beaten trail, winding around dirt paths, climbing steep mountain tracks and hurtling back down again. eMTBs are great at that, but is that all they can do? or can they do more? Can they be used as a daily commuter? Could an eMTB even replace your second car?

Is an eMTB at home in the urban jungle?

Comfort

Your car or motorbike has a suspension; why? Because it’s a more comfortable drive/ride, and for the most part, you barely notice most potholes!

Do eMTB’s make a sensible option? Firstly with its comfortable riding position, a city E-Bike makes more sense if you ride exclusively on paved roads. On the other hand, whereas eMTB’s feature a much more aggressive riding position, a full-sus eMTB, in particular, will simply eat up potholes and kerbs. Plus, any eMTB full-sus or hardtail will create new adventures right in the heart of the city. Suddenly, stairways, curbs, and urban features become shortcuts and concrete playgrounds. Just as with riding a mountain bike off road, there are no limitations to your creativity in choosing lines.

Power

Emtb’s are designed for the extreme, so they are usually equipped with powerful motors.

Of course, a 250W e-bike is fine for casual riding and light commutes, but you’ll love the power electric mountain bikes provide. The extra power comes in useful when you need to push out ahead of a car or otherwise find yourself in a sticky situation. Similar to how most family cars can reach 100 mph, but don’t often do it, having extra power in an electric mountain bike doesn’t mean you have to use it – but it’s there if you need it.

Rugged batteries

eMTBs often have larger-capacity batteries to help riders go further, even during those battery-draining hill climbs. As you conquer those hilly trails, the high power motors fitted to most eMTB’s draw a lot of current from the battery, so higher-quality batteries cells are needed to prevent the voltage from sagging too low, causing the battery to shut off. Consider too that the battery is one of the most expensive components of an e-bike, so you want a bike with a quality battery. In addition, high-quality battery cells last longer and wear down more slowly, meaning more years of good riding from your bike.

Hard as nails

Everything about most electric mountain bikes is “usually” top quality. I say “usually” because cheap electric mountain bikes are out there that use cheap components. However, at Electic Bike Sales, all our eBikes are top quality. eMTB’s typically have more robust components, including top-of-the-line frames, chains, pedals, cranks, bearings, saddles, and even paint finishes, so you can expect your bike to perform better and last longer.

Easy rider

As with all electric bikes, eMTB’s require less effort to ride, so you won’t arrive to work all sweaty and thus make the perfect car replacement.

Perhaps the most compelling reason to use your eMTB for the daily commute is that you’re not Elon Musk, Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos (unless you are Elon Musk, Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, then you can skip this part). The point is a decent eMTB is a sizable investment, and unless you’re one of the aforementioned trio owning several bikes isn’t practical. It’s impossible to have one bike to commute on and one for fun at weekends. So rather than having your eMTB sitting in the garage longing to see the light of day, get it out, own the streets.

But what are the downsides?

As brilliant electric mountain bikes for commuting, things aren’t all rosy. There are still some drawbacks.

Electric mountain bikes are heavier, with powerful motors, beefier frames, suspension components, bigger batteries will all add weight. So it could be a deal-breaker if you must pick up your bike at the end of your commute to go upstairs. Most importantly, security needs to be considered. The last thing you want is for your eBike to be stolen or vandalised, and simply chaining it to a lamppost outside work all day is a recipe for disaster, so you need somewhere secure to store your precious bike. At Electric Bike Sales, we sell a range of anti-theft devices and GPS trackers, which have recovered 90% of stolen bikes. See the Range

Also, to make your eMTB a little more practical for commuting, it might be wise to invest in mudguards, particularly in the winter, a luggage rack, and of course, lights if you don’t already have those fitted. See our Range of Accessories

All in all, though, you’ll find the benefits far outweigh the downsides. You’ll I love commuting on your electric mountain bike. eBikes give you superpowers!!

If you don’t already own an eMTB, you’ll love this models, hurry though we are experiencing high demand.
