Yamaha has unveiled a special edition electric bike to commemorate three decades of e-bike manufacturing. As the first company to introduce a production e-bike to the market, Yamaha’s milestone is worth celebrating. While there were electric bicycle patents dating back a century, they were mostly experimental prototypes that never reached mass production. Yamaha broke the 20th-century lull in electric bike popularity by releasing its inaugural e-bike model in 1993.

The YDX-MORO e-MTB, Yamaha’s cutting-edge electric mountain bike, was initially launched in the summer of 2020 and received updates in 2022, including an advanced new motor. This full-suspension e-bike features an innovative frame design called Dual Twin, dividing the down tube and top tube into two separate frame members. The patented design incorporates air gaps between the tubes, creating space for the battery and rear suspension, resulting in a compact and lightweight frame without compromising performance. This level of innovation is expected from a company with three decades of e-bike design experience.

According to a Yamaha spokesperson, “Yamaha Power Assist Bicycles aims to continue pushing the industry forward by introducing more advanced designs and innovative technology. As a pioneer in e-bikes for over 30 years, Yamaha reaffirms its commitment to enhancing technologies and offerings in 2023, providing riders with e-bikes that make every day more enjoyable and fulfilling”.

The 30th Anniversary Special Edition YDX-MORO 07 boasts remarkable range efficiency, increased torque, and Yamaha’s most advanced drive technology to date, the PW-X3 motor. This drive unit includes the Interface X control unit, Yamaha’s quad sensor system, and delivers the smoothest assist on a power-assist bicycle, packaged in a lighter and more powerful ensemble. The Special Edition model stands out with its unique polished aluminium finish coat, Yamaha racing blue rocker link and headtube, a 30th Anniversary 3D badge on the top tube, and a commemorative decal on the rear of the seat tube.

Yamaha has a long-standing tradition of manufacturing its own electric bicycle motors, and the PW-X3 represents the pinnacle of their e-bike drive systems. Despite its 250W regulatory rating, the mid-drive motor produces a maximum torque of 85 Nm and offers a 500W peak power rating in its highest power operation mode. The motor features various ride modes, including Eco, Standard, High, MTB, Extra-Power, and Automatic Mode, as well as a Walk-Assist mode. Yamaha’s Automatic Mode intelligently selects the power mode based on the rider’s climbing, descending, or braking behaviour, allowing the rider to focus on the trail fully. The quad-sensor system employed in Yamaha’s Automatic Support Mode is more refined than a cadence or torque sensor, enabling the bike to determine the appropriate level of assistance for different riding conditions.

Yamaha’s launch of the 30th Anniversary Special Edition YDX-MORO 07 is a testament to the company’s unrivalled expertise in the e-bike industry. Having pioneered electric bikes for three decades, Yamaha continues to push boundaries and redefine what’s possible in e-bike design and performance. With its advanced motor technology, intelligent assistance features, and exclusive design elements, this commemorative model represents a remarkable milestone in Yamaha’s journey toward creating e-bikes that make every day on the trail more exciting and fulfilling. This special edition e-bike is a must-have for enthusiasts who appreciate Yamaha’s rich heritage and cutting-edge innovations.
