It can feel like heartbreak when you discover that you’re the victim of an electric bike thief. What if you could turn the tables on these two wheel villans? Stolen in broad daylight 2.30pm Sunday outside the Jam Factory by the station (OXFORD), took 30 seconds with a Kryptonite lock (not one we offer to customers). We think they took the racks off in Redbridge Hollow, changed hands? Waited at the train station in Radley for 45 minutes. Changed hands in a house in Anglers Way? Tavistock Road – where the teenager lives who wrote us an apology note? Went out with a gang of mates to the rec – battery ran out? Hid in a bush from the police, broke cover, went back in the bush! Caught and taken to Reading police station.
My husband picked it up about 10.30pm.
Cut lock, idiotically tried to cut lock holder. Some damage to the paintwork of the frame from battery-powered saw. Removed front panniers. Broke bell..
We were lucky!
My husband was on the phone to the police with updates for about 5 hours.We saw it go back to the police station in real time! Would have been great if Oxford police or British Transport Police would have picked it up at Radley Station or as they were getting off the train in Reading. But all credit to the Reading police – gives you confidence in cycling.
I will definitely get two new locks with an alarm…
