Electric Bike Sizing FAQ's
A correctly fitted e-Bike is more comfortable, more efficient and more fun to ride. Yet choosing the right size e-Bike can be a confusing experience. The right size frame depends on the type of bike, your height your riding style and your preference.
HOW ARE ELECTRIC BIKES SIZED?
Almost all electric bike frame sizes are calculated by measuring the distance between the bottom bracket centre (top of the crank arms that hold the pedals) and the top of the seat tube (the bit of the frame the saddle and seat post slide into).
DO SIZES VARY FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF ELECTRIC BIKES?
Some measurements are provided in cm and some in inches and some simply by Small, Medium or Large. To make it easy for you to compare we convert all sizes to the latter format using:
• Small = frame size under 46cm for people up to 5'10
• Medium = 46-52cm for people up to 6'4”
• Tall = over 53cm for people 6'+ please note these are averages and we much prefer the custom approach. For the personal touch please visit one of our stores.
CLEARANCE NOT CRUNCH!
The stand over distance is the distance between the cross bar if there is one and your crotch. Should you have to hop off you'll appreciate some breathing space.
Women generally have longer legs and shorter bodies and arms than men, so female specific bikes may have a lower, shorter top tube to suit the female form better. There may also be a few more useful considerations such as narrower grips and wider saddles.
