ePerformance Creator and Leader

Haibike has been passionately developing bikes in the small German city Schweinfurt since 1995, drawing upon almost 100 years of engineering experience from their parent companies Winora Group AG and the Dutch Accell Group (one of the biggest bike companies in the world). Initially operating under the brand name Winora they soon became Haibike. Over the following decades, the brand developed new models and made vast strides in the eBike industry.

In 2010 the grandfather of all eMTB’s was presented at Eurobike, the Haibike eQ XDURO. The response is, of course, ecstatic, as never before had a manufacturer created a truly off-road suitable eMTB, and with it, a whole new sporting discipline was born. Haibike opened the door to what they call “ePerformance” — performance-oriented electric bikes.

Further technological developments

Haibike is the very first electric bike manufacturer to start using a unique production process for the new XDURO: Gravity Casting. Initially used in the motorbike industry, Gravity Casting is particularly applicable in the manufacture of eBikes and makes it possible to produce very complex components that are incredibly stable and precise yet remarkably lightweight. This process is mainly used to manufacture the “interface, “or engine mount, which is the heart of the bike frame, where technical functions work together. As with many other Haibike developments, the technology soon catches on and is used by more and more competitors later on.

In 2011 Haibike do it again…. A new discipline is born!!! The XDURO Race a speedy 28mph eRunner electric road bike, is shown to the public at Eurobike. Haibike start to receive global recognition, when in 2011, they are awarded the iF Design Award, one of the most pretigous international design awards for the XDURO RX. In 2012 more awards come when Sabine Spitz wins Olympic Silver in London riding a Haibike.

In 2012 the question “is Haibike any good?” is finally put to rest when Maximilian Semsch cycles around the Australian continent on his XDURO Trekking. Cycling nearly 10,000 miles on a standard XDURO Trekking eBIke, the “Around OZ” tour is the very first of its kind and is the longest in the history of the modern electric bike. Moreover, whilst carrying 18lb of luggage, remarkably even under the harshest of conditions, Maximillian’s standard XDURO doesn’t show any signs of damage other than two broken spokes!!

The product range grows to 17 models, including the first AllMountain eBike, setting the trend of long-stroke eBikes with a 150mm suspension travel. In addition, Haibike also releases a fast 45km/h electric bike, the XDURO Trekking S.

More innovations

Eurobike 2013 and Haibike presents 37 new models, including the new XDURO² replacing the XDURO. The new range debuts more innovative design features, including the double bent top tube, the slanted suspension duct, and the Skidplate.

Seen for the first time on the XDURO² the impact-resistant SkidPlate protects the motor from damage and scuffs, and yet again, the idea catches on, and more brands integrate SkidPlates into their bikes, which is now character-defining for sporty eMTBs.

Also introduced in 2013 is another game-changing eBike: the XDURO Nduro. With 180mm travel, it opens up the eMTB sport to completely new terrain and riders. In addition, Haibike also releases the XDURO Race: the first large-scale production eRunner and the Superrace, a fast Flatbar Runner.

2014 sees a new edition to the Haibike family, and the XDURO gets a brother: the Haibike SDURO. The new eBike features a new exclusive YAMAHA PW drive unit. Haibike is the first manufacturer to introduce electronics to the control suspension and introduces two SDURO models with electronic suspension control. With this innovation, Haibike opens the door to a new world of electronic assistance systems.

With fantastic handling, reliability and price-performance, the SDURO becomes an instant success with riders. The Haibike SDURO HardNine SL is voted the most popular eBike in the German bike market in its first year.

Medals soon follow when Max Brandle wins the inaugural German eMTB championship on an SDURO with a massive one minute lead ahead of the nearest competitor.

At Eurobike 2014, Haibike introduces many innovations: most notably the first Carbon-eFully with centre drive. Once again, Haibike is the pioneer with three models marking the beginning of the carbon era in the eBike market.

Awards, Awards, Awards……

A first in history: Haibike is presented with one of the most renowned international design awards, the iF Award, not once or twice, but five times!! The first time a single manufacturer wins this many awards at one time. Meanwhile over the pond, Haibike wins the new Interbike “eBike of the Year “Award in the USA. With none other than Gary Fisher presenting the Award calling eBikes the “Next Big Thing. “

In the annual MountainBike magazine poll for “Mountain Bike of the Year, “whilst being the only eMTB in the running, the Haibike XDURO Nduro Pro is voted second place by readers sending a strong signal for ePerformance and surprising the entire industry.

2015 sees Haibike make a huge digital leap with eConnect, the first intelligent ebike system that can be used to make automatic emergency calls, GPS based theft control, bike localization, a riding log, and the ability to export your ride data. In addition, all of your riding information can be viewed and managed on a special smartphone app.

In 2017 Haibike introduce the award-winning Modular Rail System (MRS) and the InTube battery (IBC). The MRS makes it possible to mount different components to the eBike frame easily.

10 electrifying years

2021 sees Haibike pull out all the stops to produce a truly exceptional bike.
