Gleam

It all began in 2010, when a Viennese messenger, Mario Eibl, dreamt up the perfect bike for his day job. A passionate cyclist and technical expert with start-up experience, Mario created the very first GLEAM prototype. The GLEAM cargo eBike was developed with the help of experienced motorcycles engineers from Ricardo (now Wheelab) in Italy and the frame produced with manufacturing partners in Italy’s “motor valley”.

A Flexible superstructure frame system

Each GLEAM ESCAPE comes with a flex.base that is fully compatible with all FLEX frames.

The GLEAM team spent seven years developing the DTT, enabling the rider to negotiate any pothole or curb safely, with the full suspension ensuring the load remains balanced while the rider enjoys a dynamic, comfortable ride.

300-500l Box

Our boxes are GLEAM’s customer’s favourite add-on, as they provide comfort and safely store tools, groceries or documents with a closable and lockable lid.

Dual Battery

With the optional dual battery, doubling the bikes range from about 40-80km without charging or switching batteries.

Fast battery charger

With a standard full charge taking four hours, by using the Bosch speed charger, the process can be accelerated to only three hours.

XCYC

The XCYC PICKUP e-cargo bike/trike

XCYC, part of the german GWW group. The GWW group really has created a remarkable business model, employing people with disabilities to build and assemble the XCYC PICKUP e-cargo bike/trike. Furthermore, GWW aims to create jobs and housing opportunities for people with disabilities in the districts of Böblingen and Calw and provide them with the necessary assistance and support. 

DRIVE UNIT

All XCYC electric cargo bikes are equipped with powerful Bosch Performance CX mid-drive systems and a PowerPack 500 battery. This system is specially adapted for the XCYC PICKUP with the Bosch Performance CX drive unit. XCYC chose Bosch because of the large service network, outstanding guarantee and outstanding performance in commercial applications. The rear axle receives 75 Nm of power thanks to a heavy-duty mountain bike chain. The XCYC PICKUP’s rechargeable battery can be charged directly from the vehicle or at any location via a standard power outlet.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY

The Bosch 500Wh rechargeable battery can be charged directly on the XCYC via a special charging socket or using a standard power outlet. A lock secures the rechargeable battery to the XCYC PICKUP. The battery can easily be attached and removed with the key.

Handlebar and Stem

Ergonomic, height-adjustable stem

XCYC PICKUP’s Ergotec height-adjustable handlebar stem can be ergonomically adjusted to fit any person or riding style.

Display

Equipped with the Bosch Intuvia display, ergonomically positioned on the left-hand side of the handlebars, the Intuvia lets the rider select the desired assistance level, with four riding modes: Off, Eco, Tour and Turbo. The battery range of the XCYC PICKUP varies, depending on the support level, terrain, riding surface and load.

Disc breaks

Capable of carrying heavy loads, the XCYC PICKUP needs supreme stopping power and is equipped with superb front and rear Shimano disc brakes, able to bring the bike and load safely to a stop in any weather condition.

Saddle

With comfortable gel inserts on the SMP saddle, even the most demanding riders can enjoy the XCYC PICKUP on long trips and daily deliveries.

An optional extra on the XCYC PICKUP bike is a height-adjustable saddle stem. A lever on this Ergotec seat allows it to be quickly adjusted by any rider within seconds.

Rear-Axel

The rear axle of the XCYC PICKUP is a sturdy continuous/fixed 25-mm steel axle which has been specially developed for the XCYC PICKUP—designed to carry heavy loads and withstand the most challenging conditions.

Trailer Hitch

Each XCYC PICKUP features an optional extra trailer hitch, to which a standard Weber bicycle trailer can be mounted to the XCYC PICKUP. XCYC also offers a straight drawbar for towing standard bicycle trailers.

Verdict

We love the Dynamic suspension on the Gleam and the Heavy duty XCYC options and especially love the XCYC business model. Both bikes look exciting prospects; with novel design features and customisable options, and will be perfectly at home on the British streets.
