Eddie-Kehoe-electric-bike-sales

That telltale, almost inaudible whirr is now a familiar sound as, of course, an electric bike quietly zips past. Many predict electric bicycles will soon dominate UK streets and bike paths. The reasons are simple: They’re convenient and fun, with schemes such as cycle to work they are much more affordable, they are inexpensive to run, have excellent range, faster than regular bicycles, they don’t pollute, a great way to get fit and people don’t arrive places sweating and red-faced.

There is a huge variety of electric bikes available, from all-conquering electric mountain bikes (eMTBs) and racers to long-distance trekking ebikes and electric cargo bikes. Many of our customers replace their second car with eBikes saving thousands of pounds each year. In addition, all sorts of businesses, from one-person bands to large corporations, are now using electric bikes and cargo bikes to make last-mile deliveries and make service calls.

At Electric Bike Sales, we opened the UK’s first electric bike shop way back in 2005. We have watched the industry grow from humble beginnings to be the billion dollar industry it is today. So we know a thing or two about electric bikes.

We couldn’t have predicted how the pandemic and Brexit have combined to affect supply and prices. We saw a massive 40% increase in sales during the pandemic, and despite solid relationships with leading manufacturers, we have struggled to keep pace with demand.

Besides growth in demand, manufacturers face pressure to source materials and components. For example, Riese & Müller announced that they would need to raise their prices by 4.9% in March 2022.

Our approach has been to invest in greater stock levels, which have enabled us to combat price rises for our customers in the short term.

Our founding director Eddie Kehoe “The pandemic saw a surge in demand for two-wheeled transport and a squeeze on supply globally.

“Electric bike price rises are once again in the pipeline due to global pressures on supply chains and transportation costs. While our quality EU suppliers have been responding to these trends by on-shoring as much supply as possible, the electric bike industry remains a global endeavour and price rises are unfortunately feeding through to end consumer prices.”

“We are commited to hold prices firm for as long as we can, but we can’t do this forever. For anyone thinking of buying an electric bike, then we recommend looking now.”

So with expected price rises soon to take effect, and our fantastic mid-winter sale, now really is the time to bag yourself a great deal.
