Bionx have been around for a long time. They started in Canada during 1997 under the company name Placements Jean Yves Dubé Inc. They attracted investment and formed the Electric Propulsion Systems company in 1998 and by 2000 were testing their new brushless and gearless direct drive technology on some of Canada's challenging terrain.

For our range it is a difficult fit becaue the Lite 24V system is not as light or as powerful as the Sparticle kit, nor are the higher power systems as effective as our Heinzmann systems and the costs are slightly higher on both counts.

So why introduce it to our range?

We have been asking ourselves this for a while; in the end it comes down to reliability, respect for being so successful and lasting long enough to look after their customers. Although supply of parts to the UK has been patchy Zyro appear to be a committed and responsible distributor.

So why might you choose a Bionx system over the other options available?

1. To have a responsive pedal assist system rather than a throttle drive - perfect for recumbents.
2. Tidy package, uncomplicated to fit with the control unit inside the motor - (be aware that this does increase the cost of motor/controller replacement outside of warranty.)
3. Easy fit to the rear wheel (rear wheel drive only)
4. extremely smooth power delivery with motor mounted torque sensing
5. multi-level regenerative function for capturing energy on the downhill

Please note this system is not compatible with hub gears.
